Bikaner is a princely city of Rajasthan which attracts tourists from all over the world. It is a major tourist destination in the state with a rich cultural heritage. Junagarh Fort
It is
one of the main attractions of the city. Its glorious history boasts that no
one can ever conquer it. It was built in 1593 AD. by Raja Rai Singh. This
fortified fortress is surrounded by a moat which was built for defensive
purposes. The fort was built majestically in the architectural style of Rajput,
Mughal and Gujarati.
You can
enter the fortress from two doors, namely Suraj Pol and Karan Pol. The fortress
has various attractions such as sculptures, stone inlays, murals, lacquer work,
stucco, glass work and wooden ceilings. You can also visit impressive apartments
such as Karan Mahal, Moon Palace, Anup Mahal, Phool Mahal, Har Mandir and a
museum.
Lalgarh Palace
Once
home to the Raja Maharajas, this palace is now a historic hotel offering a
royal taste to tourists who come here. Its architecture is a perfect blend of
Rajput, Mughal and European architectural styles. The interiors are beautifully
decorated and give the feeling of having entered the era of the Raja-Maharajas.
Your complex also houses a museum where you can pamper your eyes with a variety
of real objects.
Deshnok Temple
It is a
fascinating and unique attraction in Bikaner, where people come from all over.
About 20,000 rats live in this temple and are treated like kings. The temple is
dedicated to Karni Mata, the incarnation of the goddess Durga. According to
legend, the goddess lived here in the 14th century. And it is believed that the
souls of the dead Charans, the followers of the goddess, live in these mice.
The temple also has a beautiful marble facade and huge silver doors.
Camel Festival
To see
the colorful sides of Bikaner, join their camel festival, which takes place in
January each year. The highlights of the festival are dance, music, camel
sports and traditional cuisine.
Herd of camels
It is
another famous Bikaner attraction where hundreds of camels are bred. This farm
is dedicated to camel research. It is one of the institutes of its kind in
India. It was established in July 1984 by the Indian Council for Agricultural
Research (ICAR).
